Wale Williams joined Union Bank of Nigeria plc August 2022 as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) after more than 20 years Information Technology, IT security and Digital Banking experience with Guaranty Trust Bank plc. He is currently the Chief Information and Technology Officer (CITO).

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Nigeria (HCIB), a graduate of the executive management programs of the Kellogg school of Management, Chicago, US, Cranfield University school of Management UK and Michigan Ross school of Business, US. He holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool, UK (2015) and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lagos Nigeria (1996). In 2015, he was selected as the Chairman, Education Initiative Working Group (EIWG) of the CBN’s Payments Systems Vision (PSV) 2020 and was also a member of the Payment Initiatives Coordinating Committee (PICC) of the PSV 2020 Project. The PICC is the most senior policy formulating and advisory body to the Central Bank on Digital Banking and Payments systems in Nigeria. He is currently the Chairman, committee of Nigeria’s CIOs.

He was a speaker at the ATM & Cyber Security 2019 conference in London, amongst many other international speaking engagements on IT, IT security and Digital Banking initiatives. Wale Williams’ core experience is in business transformation using Technology, Digital Banking Technologies, Payments systems and banking operations.

Major highlights of his career include:
  •  ➢ As head, IT Service Management at Guaranty Trust Bank, we ran the most efficient payments platforms and systems in the Nigerian banking industry which led to the bank winning 9 out of 15 awards in the CBN and NIBSS electronic payment incentive scheme (EPIS) efficiency awards for 2018. This feat was repeated in 2019
  •  ➢ Conceptualization, design and implementation of the first self-service kiosk for cards issuance in the Nigerian Banking industry
  •  ➢ Deployment of the first fingerprint withdrawal ATM in the Banking industry
  •  ➢ Implementation of the first Cash deposit ATM that accepts 3rd-party deposit in the Nigerian Banking industry.
  •  ➢ The first direct connection of a bank’s cards processing system with MasterCard through the implementation of the first MASTERCARD Interface Processor (MIP) by a bank in Nigeria.
